It's challenging to be in a flood-prone area; you always have to prepare whenever the water gets too high. One thing that can help you from escaping the incident is the right car with high wading depth. So what are the best cars for flood-prone areas? Hang around for a while, and we'll give you a list.

We never have too many flood incidents in the Salt Lake area, but we live near a body of water, so we can never be too sure. Still, we are lucky ourselves that we don't get too much flood that often, compared to states like North and South Carolina, Louisiana, and even New York. Floods happen because of a variety of reasons. One, the drainage system may be failing the area - something the local government should look at. And two, it's probably because of this human-made problem we call "global warming".

But, regardless of the reason, it's still crucial to have all the equipment ready when the water goes up and soak your property. And with that, we've come up with a list of the best cars for flood-prone areas. This way, you'd know what's your next car should be, especially if you live where flood is a way of life.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

If there's one thing that the Land Rover Discovery Sport is good at, it's the ability to wade through water with ease. That's why we never fail to include this vehicle in this list of best cars for flood-prone areas. Though not as high as some of the cars out there in the market, the Discovery Sport has a decent wading depth of 600mm.

So what's new with the Land Rover Discovery Sport? For 2019, the carmaker made some significant updates on their Discovery Sport. And they didn't skip on flood safety measures this time. For one, they added a wade sensing system that alerts drivers when they're driving a tad too deep already. Also, they installed a lane-keep assistance to make sure the drivers won't get out of their lanes when they're not noticing it.

That's why if you're eyeing for a fantastic full-size luxury SUV that can get you out of the muddy situation, then the Land Rover Discovery Sport is one solid choice. You've got all the great features a luxury SUV should have and can save you and your family's life in the future.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Not much has changed with the Toyota Land Cruiser, even though the 2019 model is sixth-generation already. There are a couple of things added, however, like the automatic side mirror folding once you park. But when it comes to urgent and emergency situations, you can never go wrong with a Land Cruiser. Why? It's because it has one of the most powerful engines - on this list, at least. If you need to drive fast, the Land Cruiser has a robust V-8 engine with a 5.7-L capacity. It also can produce 381 horsepower and a 401 lb-ft torque. So what about its ability to wade through floods? The Toyota Land Cruiser has a wading depth of up to 700mm.

If you want to get a Toyota Land Cruiser, it comes in two varieties. One is a big five-door model and a smaller three-door model. Whichever you choose, you can rely on the Land Cruiser to take you out of a flooded area. Land Cruiser is also great if you're an off-road aficionado.

Volvo XC40

As they say, don't judge a book by its cover. And here's the Volvo XC40 to prove that. The exterior design of this vehicle may make you think it's another car that focuses less on design, much more in reliability and features. But with its 450mm wading depth, you can genuinely rely on this when it comes to driving it through flooded areas. 450mm may not be as high wading depth, unlike the others here, but it's enough for average flood heights. Word of caution, though; you may want to avoid the T5 hybrid model. It has three trim levels to choose from both; all three have equal levels of comfort, luxury, safety features.

So what's Volvo XC40 is good for? Technically, this vehicle won't perform well in an off-road situation. But when there are times your area floods suddenly, the XC40 is excellent enough to take you home from a flood, safe and dry.

Ford Ranger

Ford is known for creating reliable trucks and SUVs, and the Ranger series is no exception. It has a bigger frame and a strong engine, but the best part of this is is that the Ranger has a wading depth of 800mm - another one of the highest wading depths out there. The design and compartments of the electronics and engine are also high, so it doesn't get with flood water immediately.

And While most pickup trucks don't have a lot of features added, the Ford Ranger is still an exception. Its features are something most pickup owners would love to have. The Ranger has a touch-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and dependable safety measures, to name a few.

Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade doesn't have the height like the other Jeeps have, but it does make on the ability to get you out of a watery situation with precise efficiency. And if you're not living in a flood-prone area, you can still have this if you're a big fan of going off-road regularly.

You can use the Jeep Renegade in floods of up to 480 mm of water depth. It's not as high as compared to some in the market and on this list, but it's decent enough to withstand most flood incidents.

And let's not forget about the swag this vehicle has. It has a frame design that has the closest look to the iconic classic Jeep frame; this is something that Jeep lovers really do appreciate. And when it's not flooding, or you're not going off-road, the Jeep Renegade is also good with paved surfaces.
